Gamma Rays

Bubba's been home since yesterday after being at the Cat Clinic for FIVE days after his Radioactive Iodine treatment. We're not supposed to cuddle him or give him lots of hugs or let him sit on our laps... we're supposed to keep him confined to one room for a week, with limited contact from us. Well, I'm non-compliant. Bubbley is so lonely, I'm letting him have free run of the house. He's not a cuddley-kitty anyway. He typically stays more than a foot away; he doesn't want to cuddle but he does want to be with us. Of course, today, he decided he wanted to sit on my legs. Did I let him? You betcha! The effects of the gamma rays that he is still emitting won't manifest as cancer for 30-40 years. I won't be alive then, anyway! :)

If it's stupid and irresponsible of me to not isolate him (and let's just admit that it is, shall we?), then so be it. I suspect, with all my expertise, that the vet has to super-stress the risks. I may regret this decision if I live past 70, but there's no guarantee I'll get there and Bubba is here right now. Life is short. Enjoy what you can when it offers itself.
