sweet

(Click image for big)

So, several weeks ago, this woman (Nice Mom) and her toddler (CutiePie) came into the bookstore and they were really nice and the kid was aDORable. Well, Nice Mom accidentally locked her keys in her car and we all hung out until someone could come to open up her car. She wrote to Book Doctor to let her know how grateful she was and IMMD!

BTW, you can't see very well, but I'm wearing a cute as hell thrifted turquoise wool fitted jacket and sh!t-kickin' boots with straight jeans and I can't remember what top. Trust me, it was a good outfit! Woo hoo!

not a Snowpocalypse, after all

Well, all the frenzied exclamations about the HUGE snowstorm we were supposed to get came to naught, at least here in the Valley of the Grand. Other places got hit much, much harder, but here, it's just really pretty. We got about 6 inches, maybe 8, and now the sun is as bright as Miami in May; everything is so shiny, it hurts to look outside!

Yesterday, I had to shovel twice, at the store. The last time, as I finished up, I decided to take some pictures, even though it was very gray and heavy outside. As I took pics of the street, a scooter zipped into frame! Isn't it great?!?

I AM going to go outside, though. I've got the day off and I'm going Thrifting! First time in AGES. I've been on a bit of a craft kick recently and need more stuff. Ok, not really. I don't actually "need" more stuff, but I've got plans, man! PLANS! I'm going to make dog and cat toys, and some glasses bags, and some tee shirt tote bags.
I made this one from an old tee of mine during Super Bowl (before we switched over to the final episode of "Emma" which was FUN!). It's got an old placemat for a bottom. I just couldn't bear to get rid of this tee shirt. This was MY team!
I also made the potholders below. I still need to add a little alligator to the pink one. So, I need to find some green poly-fleece at the thrifts. Wish me luck!

snow and ice

There's a thick crust of ice on the snow now, after the big storm we got last night. More snow is on the way. It's Blizzard Time!

I think I'll walk to work - good exercise and I don't have to worry about crashing the car. I've been caught up in worrying lately. At work last week, I mae a stuuuuupid mistake and couldn't figure out how to fix it. My coworker was trying to help, but I just kept getting more and more frustrated to the point where she actually said "you need to calm down." Which, of course, is very embarrassing and never works. It just adds another layer of anxiety. I felt (and still feel) so guilty that this very preggers woman, with two little children (and a rather gormless hubby) at home waiting for her, stayed with me to the bitter end of this stupid debacle. She had it figured out - I still am somewhat confused. I'm embarrassed and ashamed. Of course, it's all ancient history now, so I'm gonna just try to let that go.
I've got a beloved friend who is in such a dark place, suicidal. I can't help, I can't be there - all I can do is let him know he's loved and there are people who would be so sad if he wasn't on this earth. Not enough, not enough.... I wish there was something I could do. I'm glad he's at least trying to get help, though, with a therapist and pharma magic. But he says it's not helping.

I'm late for work. Gotta go. It's a cold, dark day.
~~~
Ok, I had to share this, silly though it is - I'm at work, had to drive to be on time (make-up did NOT work today, had to fix, took lots of time, grrrr) so didn't get any exercise, but then I was shoveling the icy slushy snow from the store's sidewalks. A kind angel had shoveled once, but it needed it again. So, I shoveled, got all hot and sweaty, took off my sweater to cool down and my bra broke. I'm going to have to be braless at the bookstore today. My C-cups don't like to be unsupported. Luckily, I have a big scarf, so I'll be somewhat camoflaged.
Actually, it's pretty comfy!
Halloween
We were so busy at the store on Halloween, I was too tired to go out afterwards and party. Darn it! I'm mad at myself for that, but, geez, I was completely exhausted. I did have a cute costume, though, completely homemade.
Poet Boy went as a hippie, courtesy of my dashiki, rose-colored glasses and necklaces, Gina went as a milkmaid (albeit a 5 months preggers one), and I'm a kitty cat! My face looks weird in the group photo, 'cause some customers walked in right then!
We had a Halloween Party for kids and there were probably 50 kids there, with their attendant grown-ups. Our little store was a vortex of chaos! Yowza! We felt quite shell-shocked when it was all over, and there was nothing left but cupcake and sprinkle crumbs ground into the carpet. Little monsters....
I've realized (kind of more like a sledgehammer-to-the-head than a lightbulb moment) that work is absolutely consuming me. I'm working from home, I'm dreaming of work, I'm thinking about it ALL the time. I know this is temporary, until Book Doctor is recovered (she's back in the hospital, after being out for a day and half), but that will be months. I MUST find a way to balance my life! To get a life, outside of work. I need more hobbies than just reading and watching DVDs, that's for sure.
insomnia
So, the insomnia is back in force. Bummer. Lots going on!
* going for a dawn-time walk with my friend, Cinnamon, tomorrow morning. will bring camera.
* Book Doctor has been in the ICU for over a week, ever since we got back from the Trade Show. She's terribly, terribly ill. I'm so very worried! And I don't want to let anything (bills, events, commitments, adverts, etc) slip through the cracks while she's gone. But I don't know what-all she has going on! yikes!
* extra hours at the bookstore to do my best to make sure the bookstore keeps going
* back to eating WAAAAAAY too much junk.
On a random note, I looooove this book.
Gone for the weekend
So, I recently had a fibromyalgia flare-up that really brought me low for days. I'm going to Cleveland for a book show and am kinda worried (ok, downright frightened) that it's gonna knock me down hard. I'm doing all the driving. Why did I volunteer for that, WHY?!? Then, I work on Monday, too (we used to be closed on Mondays), so no rest for days. I'm kinda freaking out. But, at the same time, I'm just focusing on getting through it, taking massive amounts of ibuprofen (I've reduced my medication dosage to stretch it out since we don't have insurance right now what with Mr Handsome being laid off - boy, can I ever tell that that medication WORKS!), and trying to stay mentally "up." It's a challenge.
I'll be gone all weekend and probably won't post from the road (even though I've got the G3), but wanted to just give a quick little post. More to come next week!
Hot
Man, it is HOT here. Geez-oh-peets, Bro, you'd love it. Mid '90's, heat index over 100, humidity thick enough to swim in... ew.
Bubba is all stretched out on the floor, all long and opened up. He's GOTTA be hot with all that fur. I should give him a bath, he's a dirty kitty. That's one reason he got the name "Bubba;" he doesn't groom himself well. Def not a Metrosexual Kitty.
Just babbling. Gotta go to work. Thank goodness for AC at the bookstore! If we have power, that is. We lost power due to a malfunction at the power station (Power Station!)
AAAAaaaanyway, I don't know if power has been restored yet. Regardless, I'm late. oopsie!
It's all good!
This was a good week at the bookstore and tomorrow I'm going to visit the Homegirls and tonight, Mr. Handsome and I went to the Chop House for dinner with Book Doctor and The Amazing G and her hubby. It was deLISHious! And fun! And tomorrow will be fun! I love fun! And sharing it with people you love makes it even more fun!
